Diving in the Caribbean Sea!

Diving in the Caribbean Sea!

As an open water diver, I recall my first experience of diving in the Caribbean Sea during winter here a few years back. It was a cold northern wind that Friday morning as my friend and I received our final test to become certified divers with PADI.

We dove approximately 30 or 35 feet off of Fantasy Island, the sea world beneath the barrier reef was somewhat dark, but we remained in a sandy patch area that was not so dark. I thought to myself, what have I gotten myself into that chilly morning since the water temperatures might have been around 65 degrees.

These are the thoughts that ran through my mind as we had to do several different exercises in order to complete our final test. However, the end results were amazing, and we were so happy that we finally made it. Diving around the barrier reef on Roatan is an experience of a lifetime.

The aqua marine life is like no other. I’ve seen nurse sharks, turtles, eels, fish of many colors, crabs, octopus, and much more. This of course wasn’t always the case. I do have to give credit to the marine park, and their staff for educating all of us the importance of taking care of our barrier reef that surrounds the island.

People from all over the world visit Roatan for the diving experience. It is normal here to see many dive boats anchored around Roatan with divers in the early morning, noon or afternoon. Those guests too are looking for something remarkable that the underwater lifes offers. One can completely shut off one’s mind to things that distract us daily.

That has been my Roatan’s experience when it comes to diving, and if you aren’t a diver, then maybe you should challenge yourself to do something extraordinary so you can have the experience of a lifetime.
